MISCONCEPTIONS

The most common misconception about dogs that are up for adoption is that they are unwanted: crazy, sick or old... There are many reasons that dogs or cats lose their homes. And most of them are not the animal's fault. In fact, it's usually the owner's failure to obedience train or deal with life changes. Some of these changes might include changes in a work schedule, lifestyle, a new baby comes home, relocating to a place where pets aren't allowed, allergies, prospective spouse doesn't like pets; among others. Ex-owners had unrealistic expectations of pet ownership. Please help us re-home these dogs and help us spread the word. Thank you!

YAY! DON IS RESCUED BY A WONDERFUL ORGANIZATION NAMED MERLIN'S KID TO BECOME A SERVICE DOG.
THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR EMAILS AND WILLINGNESS TO HELP.

"Don is a very handsome, good-natured 1 year old who is in puppy mode and just loves EVERYTHING! He's very food motivated and just wants to play and run. Though most of his energy goes towards playing, he has an affectionate side that just melts your heart. Don received the HIGHEST rating on his behavioral test at the shelter, is playful with other dogs, and just wags his tail nonstop with glee. Come make this happy boy even happier by giving him a loving home! He is currently at a high-kill shelter in Brooklyn and his time will be out SUnday morning. We've got to save him!"

IF YOU'RE LOOKING TO ADOPT OR DONATE, PLEASE EMAIL ME AND I WILL GLADLY SEND YOU MORE INFORMATION.

Rocky is a 6-month old lab/mix who is rescued by Earth Angels. He is neutered, microchipped, and great with both people and other dogs. Very sweet boy. If interested, please call 917-648-7070 or email earthangelsnyc@gmail.com.

EDITOR'S PICK! Teddy is a beautiful brindle bundle of joy who was at the euthanize list because the city shelter was over-crowded. We got him out nick of time and oh, boy did he know we saved his life! We got a million kisses the second he arrived at the rescue. Teddy loves everybody, good on leash and turns for belly rubs every chance he gets. He seems to be housebroken and quite calm around other cats at the rescue. He's just an overall great dog who also got the highest behavior test result at the shelter : NO CONCERN. He is one year old and a wonderful life is ahead of this happy dog. Currently he is 51 lbs. We would love to see him a bit chunkier! Do you have room for this lovely boy?If interested, please call 917-648-7070 or email earthangelsnyc@gmail.com or asliayata@gmail.com

She came to us with a non-contagious demodectic mange skin disease. We dont even want to show her before pictures but look at her now! She is a strong little girl (20 lbs) who is looking forward to showing her beautiful coat and live the rest of her long life to the fullest. She has a clean bill of health and will be super healthy and good looking within weeks. She is 4 months old, tiny and looks very much like an American Eskimo dog. "Dogs are our link to paradise. They don't know evil or jealousy or discontent. To sit with a dog on a hillside on a glorious afternoon is to be back in Eden, where doing nothing was not boring-- it was peace." ~ Milan Kundera

For questions about fostering or adopting one of the above dogs (or others), you can visit www.earthangelsnyc.org, or call Emelinda at (917)-648-7070. You can also email me at asliayata@gmail.com

We are always in need of foster homes! If you would like to open your heart and your home to one of our dogs, for any length of time, we will give you food, leashes, collars and dishes - anything you need! Just make sure to bring two pieces of ID (one with your home address on it, e.g., a driver's license) when you meet with us.

If you are interested in adopting one of our wonderful pups, please contact Emelinda for a meeting with her and with the dog. There is a one-page adoption form to fill out (again, two pieces of ID are required), a short interview with Emelinda, and it is our policy to make a house-visit before adopting out one of our dogs.

The standard adoption fee is $150 for mixed-breed dogs and $200 for pure-bred dogs: that includes all of their shots and de-worming, spay/neuter and microchipping. To see a few of our dogs currently up for adoption, please visit our adoption centre at the Union Square Petco, which is open Wednesday through Sundays between 5 pm-9:30 pm.

dog picture Earth Angels is a 501(c)(3) non-profit canine rescue and adoption organization established five years ago to rescue homeless and abandoned dogs from the New York City streets. 90% of the dogs we rescue are from the South Bronx. Earth Angels was founded by Emelinda Narvaez, a New Yorker with a big heart, determined to make a difference in the lives of the many mistreated dogs she witnessed. Driven by compassion and a deep love for our four legged friends, Emelinda has been rescuing dogs for over 41 years.

EARTH ANGELS IS A NO-KILL RESCUE GROUP. Earth Angels welcomes animals that others write off as too sick, too old, too ugly, or too unmanageable . We spay/neuter, vaccinate, de-worm, and micro-chip all our dogs as well as providing medical attention when needed. We rehabilitate our dogs by using behavioral training and giving them lots of love to restore their faith in human beings. To date, we have rescued over 5,000 dogs and placed them in loving and responsible homes. And, with your kind help, we will do more.

Each day, healthy and well-behaved dogs and cats are unfairly abandoned due to their owner's failure to uphold their responsibility. So, if you're thinking of making an addition to your family, please visit your local shelter, rescue organization, humane society or or veterinarian to find companion animals in need of a loving family. With the popularity of buying puppies over the internet, new problems are also rising. A responsible breeder would not sell her puppies to strangers and ship them. Please meet your breeder in person and observe the surroundings. You can also find a breed-specific rescue group near you.

<< Glenny and Chelsea

"I rescued beautiful Chelsea from Mid Atlantic English Springer Rescue this past September. At 14 years old, the only family she ever knew dropped her off at the vet for her to be euthanized because they were getting a divorce and neither wanted to take her.

I read the posting on the website with horror and decided to bring this little girl into our home so that we could spoil her to pieces! While making travel arrangements to get Chelsea to us from her foster home some 5 hours away, a very generous volunteer of the MAESSR organization volunteered to fly Chelsea to us on his private plane.

Chelsea seemed sad and depressed when she came to us, but now is the light of our lives. She gets plenty of love and attention, ear and belly rubs. We've been able to put a little meat on her bones that was likely lost due to worrying about the dreadful turns her life almost took. She is living the life of Riley and we are lucky to have her in our home and our lives! Everyone is invited to a big party at our house on May 3rd when Chelsea will turn 15 years old!"

<< Rissy and Janell

"Rissy became a resident of an animal shelter when she was picked up as a stray. Six weeks went by and it became clear that the person she belonged to did not care to have her back. I arranged a meeting between my husband and Rissy and she did not let me down. Her sweet personality and clownish antics won his heart and we took her home. Rissy is the most awesome dog. She quickly learned to do agility, flyball, rally-o, and we are currently learning freestyle and clicker. We spend many hours walking in the woods and she also goes kayaking with me, swimming along side the boat. I cannot imagine my life without her...she is truly a blessing!"

<< Levi and Shannah

"I found Levi through an organization that rescued dogs and trained them to be service dogs. I really liked the idea of training the dogs who needed homes instead of breeding new ones to be service dogs. So I fostered him and helped train him. I fell in love with Levi right away. He didn't end up becoming a service dog but he sure did help me through a hard time. I don't know what I would do without him. He makes me very happy. I volunteer walking dogs at the shelter because it breaks my heart to think dogs like my Levi are homeless. Every dog I work with has a good heart."
