BFF: Megan M. My dog Jolene is the luckiest dog alive! I found her at my local shelter after she was dumped by her guardian at age 14! Jolene had two ear infections that had gone untreated and the shelter staff thought she was on death's door and riddled with tumors. They were just trying to make her comfortable until the end. After I adopted her and took her to the vet, we found only one abscess. no tumors! Jolene had surgery to remove the abscess and her ears are sooo much better now. After many vet visits we learned that the ear infections were related to food allergies. Jolene is totally deaf as a result of the long-term damage to her ears, but she is still with us two years later at age 16! She is the luckiest dog alive! BFF: Jerry Hurd "I'm a three-legged Great Dane named Stella. I was hit by a car and then abandoned. I thought I was a goner until the Rocky Mountain Great Dane Rescue people came to my aid. After I lost my leg, I was adopted by a great guy, named Jon, who dresses me up in bright bandanas and takes me to the park and lots of other places. He also got my therapy dog certificate so that I can go to hospitals and show people how lucky it is to be alive, never mind that you're missing a leg and part of a hip. I have two colored eyes, a bright pink nose and tongue. I also have tail that works overtime. What more could anyone want? I'm not only lucky, I bring good luck wherever I go. Just ask Jon." Here is the "Brooklyn Chain Gang". They are my 4 rescues from the streets of Brooklyn, NY. Each was brought home 6 months to 1 year apart from one another. From left to right they are Molly, Vinny, Rufus, and Old Lady. Each one had their own sad start in life but now they live the lives of Kings and Queens! They bring absolute joy to our lives and it's a wonderful feeling to know that we have brought joy to theirs. They will never have to worry about where their next meal comes from or whether they have a warm and safe place to sleep. In this picture they are enjoying a beautiful summer afternoon. BFF: Ashley My 2 year old English Springer Riley, is the luckiest dog in the world. He is my best friend, and I say that with all my heart. This poor dog started having chronic, extremely severe, ear and skin infections when he was only three months old. He's seen five different vets, and had thousands of dollars worth of treatments including a couple surgeries. Riley was diagnosed with allergies to almost every type of food, and numerous environmental factors including cats! While this boy has literally drained my bank account, I am so glad he is here with me. Despite all his problems, Riley is such a happy dog. He is always "smiling". He loves to go on walks and go swimming, and he is a star at agility. Helen Reynolds My rescued bull terrier, Gimli, was taken from a shelter in NYC. From all indications he was used as a bait dog in the world of dog fighting. The white ring around his muzzle shows where a deep cut occurred from being wrapped with a wire of some sort. Through the efforts of many wonderful people at Bull Terrier Rescue of New Jersey he spent time at a veterinary clinic for his poor condition. Soon after, he came to us where he is deeply loved. But just recently, he became very ill. The surgeon considered simply letting him go due to the extensive damage in his pancreas, but continued on. The phone call we received, telling us his chance of survival was less than fifty percent, devastated us. However, true to bull terrier form, he is now back to his old self, chasing squirrels and running to ride in the car. I would say he is one lucky dog. BFF: Leigh Ciarkowski Bettis, named after a former Pittsburg Steeler, is an American Bulldog / Pitt mix, who is three years old, loves air conditioning, his overstuffed arm chair, and sun bathing. He was rescued from a home that was breeding dogs to fight in southern Alabama. Even though he spent the first months of his life chained to a tree, he loves everyone he meets and is a celebrity at the local dog park. I take him everywhere with me in the community, including 5K charity runs and the local farmers market, to help promote the fact that all bully breeds are not bad dogs. My Name: Max BFF: Michael Jensen My Max is a very lucky pup. He was found to have a heart murmur when he was 10 weeks old and eventually diagnosed with a defective heart valve. I was told that nothing could be done and that Max would probably not live much beyond a year. Fortunately, with the encouragement of several fellow dog lovers, and several months of research, I was able to find a surgeon at Colorado State University that was doing heart valve replacement surgery. In September of 2006 Max became one of a handful of dogs in the world to undergo this open heart surgery and now, 9 months later he is fully recovered and finally able to enjoy life like a normal pup. BFF: Annise McManus Huey is a 7 month old French Bulldog and is the luckiest dog alive because he is loved by so many people. Everywhere he goes he's treated like a movie star. His human mom showers him with hugs and kisses which he hates, but accepts them graciously and then runs off to play with his many toys. After exerting so much energy, Huey enjoys plopping down on soft surfaces to take a nap and does his little stretches whenever he wakes. He is such a funny little boy, who speaks whenever he wants. All in all, his family are the luckiest people alive to have this wonderful, funny, little character they call "Batman" in their lives. We love him dearly. I lost my home and my family and was really scared. Through the efforts of many organizations like Best Friends and Volunteers for Animals I was relocated to NY State, a long way from home. When I met my new parents for the first time it was love at first sight for all of us. I couldn't wait to go home with them. They have given me a very good home with lots of love, good food, and everything else a dog could ever ask for. I've been in my new home for a year now and feel like the luckiest dog in the world!." My dog, Kodi, a Newfoundland who is now two years old is the luckiest dog alive because of the great love we all have for him. He gets homemade meals, air conditioning in the summer, a warm place to sleep in the winter and is a happy go-lucky drooling clown. He has many friends, mostly little dogs to take long walks with and romp in the park. Although his toy box is full he still purchases numerous stuffed toys with his allowance but kills them as soon as he gets home. BFF: Judy and Lyle Lane Egan gets to travel all over the West with his brothers and sister. The best place he likes is Las Vegas, that's where his girlfriend Gracie lives! Egan came from Virginia. We adopted him when he was a puppy. A nice lady from Ohio flew to Virginia, picked up Egan and flew him all the way to Seattle to us! Gracie came from Georgia, was adopted by a family in Arizona. That didn't work out so she was adopted by her forever family in Las Vegas. Each time we visit Egan and Gracie are inseparable. We caught this one of them "kissing". You can vote for more than one dog. But -please note that when you click more than once for the same photo, system will not count the second vote. You can vote for as many dogs as you want but ONE vote a day for EACH PHOTO. I.e: You can vote for Shadow, Pumba, and Desmond. You casted 3 votes. On the same day, If you click twice for Desmond, you won't cast a 4th vote. System will not count the multiple clicking for the same dog. Just come back tomorrow and vote again.
