The Dog Days or the dog days of summer are typically the hottest and most humid times of the year. They are a phenomenon of the northern hemisphere where they usually fall between July and early September but the actual days vary greatly from region to region, depending on latitude and climate. Dog days can also define a time period or event that is very hot and/or stagnant. Also many religious cultures believe that dog days are holy.

"Hi, we are Spencer and Tracey. We were adopted from MAESSR- Mid Atlantic English Springer Spaniel Rescue in May 05 and April 06. We love the beach, but don't get there very often since we live in Pittsburgh, PA."

Scout

Hi there world! My name is Scout and I am a two year old weimaraner. In my two years I feel as though I've experienced a lot: The colors of fall leaves (boy those are fun to chase), the cold and blustery winters of new england (boy I love to eat the snow) the wet and rainy springs (boy do I like to stay inside) and lastly the warm and sunny days of summer(boy do I love to swim, and eat ice cream, and roll in the soft grass or in the sand, or....). Yes you guessed it. Summer is my most favorite time of year!

Mack

"This is Mack. The adoptive parent for these poor orphaned lambs. Mack is 8 year old Great Pyranees livestock guardian dog. His specialty is befriending lonely lambs, and keeping them warm on chilly summer nights. In this picture, he is bonding with his friends Buttercup & Black-Bean."

Penelope

This is Penelope. She is a 4 mo old English Bulldog puppy. Her favorite pastimes are eating, sleeping, and playing with her french bulldog brother Louis. She loves to show off her new teeth! In this picture, Penelope is supervising the installation of her new sprinklers. She wanted to make sure they were put in correctly. She can be a bossy little bulldog!

"I am a 16 month old Yorkie and live in NYC with my 14 year old Yorkie brother and my Mom who is much older. My brother is my best friend, and I love to jump on him and pull his lead when we go outside. He doesn't like it, but I do it anyway. My Mom takes us to cool places on the weekends, and we belong to a Yorkie group and do lots of fun activities with our many friends. Here I am sunning myself in Central Park at a recent Yorkie picnic. My Mom says that I was named after a beautiful and intelligent Shakespeare heroine, but all I know is that boys think I'm cute!

"My name is Tag, I'm a 2 1/2 year old English Springer Spaniel. I love to go swimming at the lake, but I always seem to get cold afterwards. I love to hunt for bull frogs and sticks. I seem to love to play fetch and jump in the lake for the tennis ball first, before going on my hunt for frogs and sticks. Afterwards my mom and dad dry me off the best they could and then wrap a towel around me to keep me warm. I love to sit by the fireplace too. I have an adopted brother named Harley, he came from MAESSR. I also have 2 sisters Jade and Bailey. I love my family."

Ginger

"Bark! Hello! My name is Ginger (back) and trying to run down the little hill is my puppy. We love to play in our backyard in the summer! It's our favorite thing to do. I mostly just sit and enjoy the sun while my pup runs around as fast as she can! We also both love to play fetch. We are also both very photo-genic!"

Star
BFF's Dianne, Randy & Courtney Boyd
"My name is Star and I am a two year old Flat-Coated Retriever. In these pictures, I am doing my favorite activity for the summer...jumping off the dock as I wait for the bumper or ball to be thrown by my humans. I'm always thinking that if I get a head start I just might catch it before it hits the water!"

"We are Indy(Independence)and Chips(Chipper). Indy and eight other seven month old puppies were turned into the Montgomery shelter in one crate! Imagine Indy's luck when he was rescued by MAESSR, Mid-Atlantic English Springer Spaniel Rescue. Indy's foster family fell in love with him, making him a permanent part of their family for the last five years. Indy and Chips are the best of buddies and enjoy springing around the family farm."

"We are Indy, Remi, and Chips. While Chips was lucky enough to find a home as a puppy, Indy and Remi were not. Indy and Remi are MAESSR Mid-Atlantic English Springer Spaniel Rescue dogs. Indy was turned over to a shelter in one crate with eight other dogs. Indy's foster home fell in love with him and made him a permanent part of their family. He now romps happily around the farm with Chips. Remi was given up by an owner who could no longer keep her. Remi was fostered with Chips and Indy and found a loving adoptive home of her own. Remi now has a full family with another dog and even kids! She loves to pick the kids up at the bus stop and sits proudly in the front seat waiting for them to come home."
Rednose
"Hello, this is Irish my beautiful Rednose which is an American Pitbull Terrier. She was caught in the action of her favorite past time, soaking up as much water as possible on a hot summer day. I like to call her Irish the Lover, because if she has the chance she is doing anything possible to be as close to me and my family. If there were ever a Pitbull that were able to dispel the false accusations about Pitbulls and all the Bully Breeds alike, she would be it. She's a part of my family and I wouldn't have it any other way."
Murphy

"This is "My Murphy", the four year old Sheepdog of my Dreams. He is a delightful companion, and a patient big brother to our Great Dane. He is a certified Therapy Dog (TDInc.) and has his U-CD title in obedience. Mostly he keeps an eye on things around the house and enjoys long walks with Daddy. He's a great dog, can't remember the last time he did something wrong. He's The Murph!Cute isn't he!!"

"I go to the park every day to run and play with other dogs. I am from a animal shelter and got lucky to be adopted by my new parents who treat me very well I was 8 months old at the time of adoption and now I am a little over a year old. As you see I get the run of the park without a leash and I love the freedom to run, especially with my best friend "Steve" who is a german shepherd."

"My name is Yankee-Boy. I am a one year old Boston Terrier. I love to be outdoors playing in the yard. When I finish fetching the ball (my favorite pastime) with my parents outside in the summer sun I like to lie on the cool grass to take a nap. Sometimes, when allowed, I take a "cruise" around the pool. I love the water."

"Hello there! I'm a 9 years YOUNG Weimaraner from NJ. In January of 2004, I was rescued from a shelter by the best mom and dad, ever. Since rescuing me, they have opened their lives and hearts to another Weimie that needed rescuing! We are so lucky... we get to spend time down the Jersey Shore during the summer! This picture of me was taken on the "qt" at the beach in LBI (We dogs aren't allowed on the beach, so dad and I snuck! ;-) at sunrise!) My family is very involved with animal rescue organizations--especially those that help Weimaraners. Our family motto is: Adopt a senior Weim because... old dogs can teach YOU new tricks! Woof"

I am a Labrador Retriever who was born in North Carolina, but moved to New Jersey when I was 10 months old. I am now one year and seven months old. My favorite game to play is fetch, but my mom makes me take a break when I get too hot. This is me taking a break and relaxing in my pool.
