LETTERS TO THE EDITOR "......Obviously, the chances of this happening are low, but I do think that taking the few extra seconds to remove the collar before leaving your puppy alone are completely worth it. Even though it seems utterly improbable, I'm here to say that [a fatal accident] *can* happen. I would not want anyone else to go through the guilt, sadness, and emptiness that we are going through right now. If you could do anything to publicize and spread this tip or story, I would greatly appreciate it. In Athena's honor" from Beth "......I enjoyed your article on handicapped dogs. My Boxer, Stormy had earned his CGC title and was in training for the TDI (Therapy Dog International) when he got an eye infection inside both his eyes. The infection left him blind. He went through a depression and the only thing that helped was his training sessions. He enjoyed working so much. I was so disappointed after all the training he had done to get TDI certified that he may not be able to be tested. I called the TDI office and asked if he could still be tested since he was blind. I was so happy to hear he could be. It is very hard for a blind dog to pass but he did it. Now he can bring some happiness to people in nursing homes and hospitals." from Mary "... Oh I cried my eyes out about Rudy. I have a Great Dane I took in. She was inbred and had a skin disorder. No one wanted to touch her. I hugged and loved her everyday. Now she is cured from this disorder and happy with her big family. I give 5 dollars a month to the local shelter for the care of one dog. So when their new loving owners come to get them it's free. I wish I could do all the animals that way. But I'm also disabled and was abandoned as a baby. I know how they feel. And I thank God for others like me. Keep up the good work." from Jennifer "I really enjoyed the article about Rudy as I also work in a similar place. Looking forward to your next issue" from Debbie "...Korean News Channel SBS Finally Exposes the Truth Pure-breed and Pet Dogs Are Also Sold For Food; Not Just Mixed-breeds and Yellow Dogs: Dog meat traders or dog eaters do not make the distinction themselves in practice - despite the fact that they have been using the distinction as a justification for dog meat. We have been telling the Korean government for the past 12 years that animal abuse in Korea will only get worse unless we can end the consumption of dogs and cats. Instead of making genuine efforts to expel the trade based on lies and greed, the Korean government is trying to legitimize the distinction by law, thereby worsening the plight of dogs and cats in Korea. As the government has not yet finalized the Amendment, we still have time to influence its decision. Please therefore ask again the Ministry of Agriculture to include all dogs and cats in the definition of pet animals in their Amendment to the 1991 Animal Protection Law. (June 27, 2004)- Sunnan Kum" from Rosa "...when using cleaning products in the home , just as with children, take special care to use products that are not toxic on your carpets and floors. In the Collie world we have experienced tragic situations involving certain floor cleaners that are wonderful as long as our loving pets DO NOT come in contact with the liquid used in these cleaners! We all know how animals lick their paws and serious harm has come to pets caused by these products ... Please just use caution and try to use products that are natural not just for our animals but the environment as well!" from Mona ."..I believe that you are trying hard to provide a quality magazine to help promote the best care for our companions. However, I think your information on nutrition and pet food is inaccurate and behind the times in many areas. I think you might want to do a bit more research before publishing the next one..." from Dee "...We need to educate the public. Most people say "But that's where you buy animals from a pet shop!". They just don't know what's going on. They'd be horrified if they knew that over 200,000 lovable and homeless animals have to be euthanised every single year in Australia. Please also tell everyone you know not to think they are 'rescuing' an animal from a pet shop when they purchase it - this only makes way for others to suffer. Backyard breeders and puppy farms are making millions from the breeding of animals - with your help we are already making a big difference. When looking for an animal companion we say: Please scout all pounds and shelters first, and if you still (unbelievably) can't find a suitable companion in these places then go to a registered breeder that has great word-of-mouth referrals". from June "...I think your magazine is terrific! I have been enjoying the articles! Keep up the good work!"- from Pam "...Thanks so much for sending us a link to your Housepetmagazine. I love it!! I'm so excited to see new pet related magazines come out. Great layout by the way, very easy to read and navigate." from Charity "....If you have not addressed the issue of China and the breeding of dogs and cats for their fur and selling it to MOSTLY unsuspecting countries as "Asian Wolf" or Mongolian Coyote or some such. They are bred and kept in unspeakable conditions and die a horrible death. I was sick to my stomach watching the story. I think we should boycott ALL Chinese products or at least send them a message that a civilized country DOES NOT DO THIS TO DOG AND CATS.PERIOD. END OF DISCUSSION!" from BeaBea "Just a quick note to congratulate you on such a very good e-magazine. I've thoroughly enjoyed it. Any chance of you covering the issue of vaccination and whether or not vaccinations are needed ?" from Amanda "What an excellent website! Thank you for listing the Unexpected Pit Bull Calendar." Jyo "This list is dedicated to deaf dogs in various breeds. The Deaf Canines Network is a network of individuals who have in some way shown interest in, and/or effort, in rescue, in fostering or adopting deaf dogs of all breeds who have become homeless. Deaf Cats are welcome to post if needs. We are attempting to connect up individual rescuers, breeders, shelter officers, and concerned individuals, so that in sharing information and ideas, homeless deaf pets will benefit. If you are interesting to join, here is at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Deaf-Canines-Network" from Cathy "...Your magazine is great! I really enjoyed reading through the articles and seeing the pictures." from Hilary "...I have to say how pleased I am with the whole site! Your site is a breath of fresh air." from Jai - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
